Sometimes you just have to plan a surprise π . A group of friends has been planning a gathering to surprise one of our mentors, (in my past career). We’ve all “grown up” under this wonderful woman. She helped many of us get started in a profession that became a career. She’s one of the sharpest entrepreneurs I’ve ever known. Over the years she has shared so much with so many, giving advice from a business perspective, teaching newbies the ropes, making introductions to help make connections, and anything to help along the way.
Over time, though, the mentorship became a friendship. Her desire to help in the business worldβwell, that’s just an extension of who she is inside. She’s a stranger to no one. She’s a “mother” to many, opening her home to anyone who needs a bed. She loves to laugh and gives of herself unconditionally.
Yesterday a bunch of friends flew into SW Florida to surprise her. She thought she was just meeting up with me and my husband, along with a mutual friend who comes to visit her often. When she arrived at the restaurant to see a few others her face lit up and the hugs abounded. Not long after a few more friends arrived, and she may have screamed in joy π . The evening rounded out with one more friend arriving a little later and the surprise was complete. The time spent catching up, laughing, playing remember when, and just sharing the joy of friendship, it was priceless.
Father brings people into our lives for a reason. What we do with those relationships, well that’s up to us. What a wonderful place this world would be if we could build those priceless relationships with all we meet.
Friends, as you begin your day today, give thanks for the special people in your life. Your family of course, but also for dear friends, who in many ways you consider family. Hey, maybe surprise them with a text or a phone call, let them know you are thinking of them. Have a wonderful day π .
Special thanks to my photographer friend Liz Brunson for the beautiful midwest sunset picture, the cover of today’s little blog.
