He Made US

I was having dinner with some folks last night, several were much younger than me, like my youngest daughter’s age. So, yes, young enough to be my children. I was listening to their conversation about technology. They talked about how they don’t use cash, they use Apple Pay for everything, they even use their watch to pay for purchases. One actually shared a story about how he used his watch to pay for so much that he didn’t realize one day while traveling that he had lost his wallet 😦 . Umm…does anyone else find that just a little disturbing?

Our conversation moved to their children, both have little ones at home, in the four to six-year-old ranges. We were discussing what the future looks like for them, how ai is being used for everything these days. One of them commented that he was chatting with his parents one day and they were lamenting that their grandchildren wouldn’t really be learning anything because their college papers would be written by ai. I agreed with his parents… Anyway, he told his parents that wasn’t a big deal, “Because my son will be working in a place where robots do everything anyway”. Umm…does anyone else find that just a little disturbing? If robots are going to be doing everything anyway, then why would any business need to hire his son?

I’m not here in this little blog to discuss whether ai and technology are a good thing. I know I have my own concerns, and yes I do see benefits if used appropriately. But…just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you SHOULD. My car will go over 100 mph, but should I drive it that way, probably not.

My point is this, I don’t feel that Father created us, His children to have us create machines to replace us. A robot does not have a soul, will not connect with Jesus, and will not have the ability to love as Father asked us to do. We were created in God’s image, each of us. I don’t recall reading in the Bible about a robot among the 12 disciples of Jesus.

I’m sure there will be many who say I’m just old-fashioned, and that may be the case. That has paid off though in many ways. I recall after Hurricane Ian in 2022, Naples lost internet service and power for days. We took some friends for pizza to give them a break after cleaning sludge and muck from their home. The pizza place was not able to take credit cards, only cash. None of our friends had cash, “We don’t carry cash anymore, why do we need it”. Hmmm…. Well, we had cash and gladly treated that night.

I just feel that we are moving very quickly down a path where the need for human interaction, human thinking, and good ole’ fashioned hard work are becoming less and less. We are so focused on making our lives easier that we are missing how we learn and grow from doing things like hand writing a thank you note.

I don’t know where this whole technology and ai thing will end up, but I know that I will continue to do my own research, I’ll continue to write this little blog myself without ai help, (bad grammar and all sometimes), and I’ll keep asking Father to guide us His children each day.

Have a good day friends, please continue to lift Emily Rea and her family in prayer.

Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
