Usually, when I sit outside on our lanai to have my morning chat with Father, it’s quiet. However, in the last week or so the bubbler in our little lake has been running consistently. So, this morning as I sat and listened to the water, thoughts of Emily Rea came to mind. I’m thinking that was a nudge from Father to give an update.
For those of you who may be new to this little blog, let me give a reminder of her story. Emily is the niece of a dear friend of mind. She was an avid outdoors-type person. She paddle-boarded regularly, went fishing in Alaska in the summers, was a skier, hiker, you name it, she did it. On July 16, 2024, Emily told friends she was going out to paddle board at Hungry Horse Reservoir not far from where she lived in Montana. She did so and never came home. Two days later, Emily’s paddleboard was found upside down, 2 miles from where she launched with the paddle still attached to the board and no signs of damage. Onboard was her paddleboard case and numerous non-waterproof items. Hmmm, this doesn’t sound like typical behavior of someone so skilled.
Things have been odd about this case from the beginning. Now, the family, after eleven months of being asked to stay quiet about the case, is speaking up. They have launched a campaign, and a petition to begin a full federal investigation around Emily’s disappearance. The local sheriff’s office said they will not pursue a criminal investigation unless new evidence arises. However, we’re not quite sure why certain things were not completed during their initial investigation.
Here are some of the unanswered questions about Emily’s disappearance:
-Why were items atypical to Emily’s habits found on her paddleboard?
-Why are some of her personal items missing such as her phone and life jacket?
-Why were her board or car not treated as potential crime scenes?
-Why have no formal interviews been conducted?
-Why was there limited, if any, evidence processing?
-Why was the family asked to wait, and stay quiet, so as not to tip off a potential suspect, if the case was not a criminal investigation?
-Why are we not hearing about the many other missing women in this very area, one who has gone missing since Emily’s disappearance?
Friends, many things don’t add up in this case. Now the family is speaking out and asking for help to get federal authorities involved in an investigation. They have also started a GoFundMe page to raise funds to hire a private detective to help in the search for clues about her disappearance. I come to you this morning to not only continue to lift prayers for this family but also to sign the petition for federal assistance. If you are inclined to donate to the fund, of course, that would be wonderful as well.

Many women have gone missing in this area. Things aren’t adding up, and it’s time to bring sweet Emily Rea and the others home to their families. Thanks so much for your prayers and support friends.

What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it?
