Helping the Little Ones

For the last several years our church has helped one of our local organizations supply fully stocked backpacks to children in need. It’s a wonderful program that provides children with new backpacks and supplies to start the school year.

Usually, we provide a list of supplies by grade level and our parishioners shop on their own and drop off the backpacks with us. The mound of packs grows each week until you can fill the back of a truck 🙂 . This year, we are participating again, only we asked for donations and purchased supplies in bulk. It stretched our donations, and we can assemble double what we collected last year.

Yesterday a group of volunteers showed up to unpack the boxes, (and boxes, and boxes), of supplies and set up the assembly stations for this Sunday. It was wonderful to see people who realistically would be grandparents to these kids, unpacking, counting, and staging crayons, markers, notebooks, etc. They care and they want to help make things better for the little ones, and that we will.

This morning as I come here to share this story I can’t help but think about the little ones lost in the TX storms last week. I think about the little ones who survived and how they are going to feel in the days, weeks, and years to come. I continue to lift prayers for all of them.

Jesus charged us to take care of the little ones, they are the most precious gift that Father gives to us. So whether we are lifting prayers for those dealing with loss or tragedy, or just providing something as basic as a backpack for school, let us carry out the mission of protecting these gifts.

One day when we are with Jesus we’ll understand the whys. Until then though, let’s do all that we can to help the little ones.

Have a good day friends, I’m off to pick up a few more boxes of crayons 🙂 .

Matthew 19:14
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of Heaven”.
