This morning, as I sat and had my morning chat with Father, I noticed the moon. My goodness, it was sooo bright. It’s full, and it’s definitely putting out some brightness. As I talked with Father, I noticed lightning in the distance. It was such an interesting contrast. The thought of storms on the horizon, yet just above my head was the brightness of a clear sky.
I started to think about life and how we go through those storms sometimes. It gets dark, the wind blows, sometimes damage occurs, and yet, on the other side, there is a brightness, a clear sky.
Many years ago, shortly after a dear friend, actually, our grandson’s Godfather, passed away from cancer, I participated in our local cancer walk. That was back in the day when the walk went through the night. We put together a team, set up and decorated our themed tent, and had a schedule for those who were walking. Our goal was that at least one team member would be walking at all times to show our support and love for our friend. The walk started in the early evening and was to wrap up with the ending ceremony at 8:00 a.m. the next morning.
Everything was going well as we began walking. There were many, many teams, and it was a festive gathering. Everyone was there to remember, or support a loved one or friend who was or had struggled with this disease. Well, in the early morning hours, the wind began to pick up, and the temperature began to drop. Before we knew it, a full-fledged storm had rolled in, and it was a doozy. It knocked over tables and chairs, grabbed tents and tossed them around, and we were all grabbing what we could, through the pouring rain. It was a bumpy and scary ride for sure.
Almost as quickly as the storm came up, it subsided. The wind and the rain stopped, and the air felt cleaner and cooler. The team areas were quite a mess, but we had all weathered the storm safely.
I remembered thinking that morning, as our team headed back to the track to walk final laps in memory of our friend, I thought about how he fought his battle. He weathered an ugly storm; he did it with grace and love, never wavering in his love of Christ. I thought about how he came out on the other side and walked into the brightness and presence of Jesus. The timing of that nasty storm that night, I don’t think it was an accident. I think it was a message from our Lord. There will be storms, we will face challenges, and if we put our entire trust in Him, there will be brightness on the other side.
Friends, we have to keep pushing through the storms that come our way. We’re strong, and the good news is we’re not alone. Father will guide us and shelter us, and when we weather those storms, there’ll be a bright sky on the other side.
Have a good day, friends. Prayers for sweet Emily Rea, and for anyone currently weathering a storm.
Mark 4:39
And He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be Still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
