I think we all have Bible verses that bring us comfort. I’m sure just reading this, you are probably thinking of a few that come immediately to mind. We are so fortunate to have God’s word as a resource to get us through challenges that come our way. When you delve into His word, you find all the ways over the years that He has guided His children through even the most difficult of times.
Yesterday, as our family spent time together, my sister-in-law asked if I would say a prayer for us as a family. We were waiting for one of Mac’s brothers to arrive (there are a total of six in the McQueen clan). “Of course”, I said. I spent the next hour or so looking through our Book of Common Prayer, recalling bible verses and prayers that bring comfort during times of uncertainty.
Our brother-in-law and his wife arrived. We spent some time together chatting and letting him spend time with Mac. I let my sister-in-law know that we could pray whenever she was ready. We gathered around Mac, held hands, and I shared a prayer, read a psalm, and a portion of a service from our prayer book. When I was finished, my sister-in-law asked that we say the Lord’s Prayer, the Our Father. As we all said this prayer, I felt the comfort of Father fill me.
The Lord’s Prayer, the Prayer that Jesus taught us to pray, it’s no wonder that it brings comfort for so many. The Lord Himself gave us this prayer, knowing that over time we would rely on it for comfort and connection to Him. Well, yesterday it did just that, it brought us closer together and closer to Him. He was in our midst and will continue to be.
Friends, I hope you, too, know the comfort of this prayer, and lean on it when you are feeling lost, helpless, sad, or whatever other emotion you can name. It’s a prayer of comfort, and what better way to be comforted than by praying His prayer.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen.
Thanks my friends, for your continued prayers.
Luke 11:1
Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.”
