A few nights ago, as my husband and I were making dinner, we chatted about how it was getting dark earlier π¦ . Ugh, I don’t like this time of year, not just because it gets dark early, but also because it’s harder to see the sunset from our windows now. At any rate, we also discussed the fact that we hadn’t been to the beach in forever and considered stopping on the way home from work.
Well, yesterday morning, in addition to packing lunch, I put together a cooler with snacks and beverages so we could stop on the way home from work. We packed a change of clothes, my husband threw the beach chairs in the back of the car, and we were set. Yesterday afternoon, my husband wandered into my office and asked if we were “keeping our plans.” “Yep”, I declared. Off we went to change, and sure enough, we got out of the office just after 5:00 p.m. π .
We made our way to our favorite spot just a few blocks from the church, parked, and wandered onto the beach. Even though the season is starting here, we were surprised how empty the beach was. I’m not complaining.
The evening was gorgeous. It was a little windy, but that died down pretty quickly. As we sat and chatted, I felt myself relax as the waves rolled in. I’ve said it before, there is something about being by the water that just provides healing. I’m sure you all have places that you love that do the same for you. The beach, a lake, maybe it’s the mountains, we all have those special places that make our hearts happy.
We enjoyed our little happy hour and took in a gorgeous sunset. As we headed home, we both commented on how nice it was. My husband made a point that we shouldn’t wait so long next time. To which I said, “We could make this a weekly thing, let’s just plan to stop at the beach each Wednesday evening”. I think we have a date π .
Friends, I know I sound like a broken record lately, but make time to be together and enjoy the beauty and gifts that the Lord has given us. Our little “excursion” last night cost $0, and we have a sweet memory. So don’t let work, school, or crazy schedules keep you from enjoying the gifts you’ve been given. Accept those gifts, enjoy them, and give thanks for them.
Go aheadβ¦make the date π .
Have a good day friends, thanks as always for being here each day to read my ramblings.
Romans 11:29
For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
