Yesterday morning, I went to work early. I have a large project I’m working on, and I can accomplish a great deal before the office fills with the rest of the team and the day-to-day activities.
I stopped by the local bagel shop on my way, and they had literally just opened, well, that’s what I thought, until I got inside. The place was empty, and as I made my way to the counter, I could see an employee feverishly spreading cream cheese on what appeared to be dozens of bagels. As I looked down to the other end of the counter, there were three large jugs of coffee, you know, the to-go jugs. Ahh…a very large to-go order. I noticed that this guy, well, he was it for employees. I’m guessing he was a manager, just by the way he moved. He knew what he was doing and was multitasking supreme.
He noticed me at the counter, said good morning, and asked what he could get for me, still whipping through the cream cheesing of those bagels. I asked for my bagel and waited patiently. Just then, another customer came in and went straight towards the jugs of coffee. Ahh…his order. The manager asked if he was picking up, and sure enough, it was him. “I just need to finish these last few bagels and grab your orange juice”. The man started taking the other items to his car.
I had already pulled out additional cash to tip this manager, ’cause man, he was impressive, and was doing it all with a smile. I looked up and here he came with my order, and with that smile said, “Here you go, it’s on me this morning”. What? Now, I realize he was probably doing that because he didn’t have time to take off his gloves, ring up my order, make the change, reglove, yada, yada. It didn’t matter, though; it made my morning! I thanked him and replied, “Well, the tip is on me then”, and I dropped the full amount that I had pulled out of my wallet into the tip jar.
Yesterday morning, I wrote about things being “better today”. Well, Father started it off that way for sure. I have to admit I was thinking about all the things I had to complete, I was just wanting to get to work, and out of the blue, He dropped me into the middle of a situation that just put a smile on my face. I got into my car and simply said, “Thank you, Father, for making it better today”.
Friends, the Lord takes care of us. He knows what we need before we even think about it, and He knows when we need it most. Yes, it was a simple thing, but it totally changed my perspective on the day. Don’t underestimate those little, simple moments.
Today, look for opportunities to make someone else’s day. Do something simple, like a little extra tip in the jar at the coffee shop 🙂 .

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
