His Day

Yesterday, after church, my husband and I were headed to have breakfast with some friends of ours. I’ve mentioned here before that it’s become our weekly routine, and the question of the day is, “So where are we going this morning?” We love catching up with them each Sunday, and to say there may be some laughter involved, well, ya that might be the case 🙂 .

As we were driving to breakfast, (oh, and in case you were wondering, we were headed to the House of Omelets), we were discussing the sermon. The conversation veered a bit, and the Ten Commandments came up. It was at that point that my husband mentioned that he really struggled with commandment number three, “Remember to keep holy the Lord’s day”. Meaning, no work on Sundays.

There are many times when we are both doing catch-up on work over the weekend, and that tends to spill into Sunday. And…yes…we were all set to do that yesterday, given that we were out of town last week. However, during that conversation, it struck me how Father gave us that commandment to make sure we first, make sure to honor Him on that day, and secondly, that we make sure to rest our minds and our bodies. He rested on the 7th day, and He asks us to do the same. Well, He went a little farther than asking; He made it one of the top three rules for us 🙂 .

So yesterday, rather than sit down at our computers after church, we rested. We let our minds and our bodies take a break before the start of a new week. Now granted, I caught myself a couple of times, but remembered, “Keep holy the Lord’s day.” I realized something as evening came. The work was still there; there wasn’t an urgent “fire” to put out. I would get to things when the work week began. I don’t have to stress and go against His wishes just to get a head start on the week. And…I felt better for it.

So friends, if you are still working, I encourage you to make sure to “Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day.” Spend time with Him on the seventh day, and let yourself rest as well. The work will still be there, and you’ll be ready to tackle it.

Oh, one last thing, today is our breakfast buddy, Judy’s birthday. So, I share the birthday prayer for her. Happy Birthday, sweet friend, we love you!

Watch over thy child, O Lord, as her days increase; bless and
guide her wherever she may be. Strengthen her when she
stands; comfort her when discouraged or sorrowful; raise
her up if she fall; and in her heart may thy peace which
passeth understanding abide all the days of her life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Have a wonderful day, everyone!
