Celebrate Youth

Today is “Youth Sunday” at our church. Each year, around this weekend, we celebrate all of the young people in our church. Those in middle and high school, and one of the seniors, will give the sermon today. Others will play key roles throughout the service, ushering, reading lessons, and being a chalice bearer.

It’s a wonderful day to recognize how special they are and the future they have in front of them. We’ll say congratulations to our seniors, share some cake, and tell stories about how we remember when they were only “knee high to a grasshopper”.

What I love about today, though, is how involved each of them will be in the service. I’ve watched many of them grow up through the Sunday school classes, enjoy youth fellowship, and become young adults. Today, the faith they have grown into over the years is second nature to them. My hope is that they continue to grow in faith as they make their way to college and beyond. Our job, as parents and friends, is to help them continue that journey.

So today, we’ll celebrate the youth, play remember when and wish them all well on the next road they will travel. If you have a young adult embarking on the next road, may they, too, be celebrated today.

Heavenly Father, please be with our youth and young adults during this season. Guide their hearts and minds as they embark on the next journey ahead. Whether going to college, the military, a trade school, or to the next school year, please protect them and fill them with Your Spirit to be guided to right decisions. Help them to know they are loved by so many, and regardless of whatever challenges they face, you will be with them. May they always turn to you in all they undertake. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Have a good day, friends, and cheers to our youth!

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.
