Being Content

We were fortunate to spend the long weekend with family. We gathered to celebrate the anniversary and dual birthdays of our nephew and his wife. Family from multiple states came together to celebrate and catch up on life happenings. It was a joyous time, and we all commented as we said our goodbyes, how great it was to have so many of us together.

I was having a conversation with my niece the night before we left, during our final dinner. We talked about our homes. She was asking if we thought we’d stay in our little community, or if we had any plans to move. I shared that we were pretty content where we are, and didn’t see any reason to change that. She then commented that she loved their little home. They have a nice yard for their daughter, plan to build an addition above their garage, and are perfectly content where they are.

I thought a lot about that conversation on the way home and even still this morning as I sat down to write this little blog. We are given so many gifts in this life, yet how many times do we want more? A bigger house, a nicer car, the newest iPhone, and the list goes on. Do we truly need those things, or can we be content with the simple?

Maybe it’s where I am at this point in my life, but I have to say, I enjoy the simple. I can do without the latest technology; some days, I can totally do without any technology. Definitely don’t need a huge home, we love the little place we’re in. Yes, I’m content with simple.

The simple gifts we have, those are the most important. The gift of family, friends, the gift of seeing a sunrise and sunset, and walking in the beauty of the Lord’s creation, those are simply priceless. The gift of the Son of God giving His life for us is even more priceless. These are the gifts of contentment, my friends. Let’s give thanks for these and enjoy how blessed we are to have them.

Have a good day, everyone. If you could continue to lift prayers for my brother, I’d be grateful. He has had a few setbacks.

1 Timothy 6:6-8
But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
