I have a pretty full day ahead of me, but I’m going to make a point of carving out time for a walk on the beach. Headed for a little pampering this morning, clean up my shaggy head of hair, then a funeral this afternoon. In between those things, I need some saltwater sand in toe time, even if just to stroll for a bit.
Yesterday I had to touch base with a parishioner about a project we are working on. She answered her phone and asked how I was, and I responded by asking how she was. She said she was wonderful and at the beach. “Aww, man”, I replied, “jealous!” We both remarked how we drive by it every day but never make the time to go. It doesn’t take long to ask yourself, “Why do I live here, if I’m not going to enjoy the simple beauty of it?”
I know I sound like a broken record some days when I encourage you, and me for that matter, to make the time to enjoy the gifts that the Lord has provided. It could be physical surroundings like the beach or mountains, or it could be the blessing of having a parent still with you in your older years.
Take a few moments this morning to look around and think about the blessings in your life. Maybe go a step further, write them down. Before you know it, I’m guessing your list will be much longer than you think. Then, over the next few days, tell Jesus thank you for each of those gifts, one by one.
We all have challenges at times in our lives. We all face difficult times; however, we are stronger than we think. The blessings we have, especially the blessing of God’s love, will help us overcome the challenges we face. Yes, I know, broken record, right? You’ve heard this from me before. Maybe I say it so much here because I need to remind myself as well.
Have a good day, friends. 🙂
