Prayers for Indy

Many years ago, a friend told me about a couple who sang country, Christian, and folk music. Joey and Rory Feek were “up and coming” when I first learned about them. I enjoyed learning about their story, their getting together, the birth of their little girl, Indiana, and then the sadness of Joey’s cancer diagnosis. She fought hard over the years, but ultimately the disease took her much too soon.

I’ve kept up with Rory over the years, reading his blog and watching Indiana grow. I have a special place in my heart for her, as she, like my grandson Austin, has Down syndrome. Rory remarried a year or so ago, and it’s been wonderful to watch Indiana grow up with the love of her momma, Rebecca.

I learned this week that little Indiana, who isn’t so little anymore, is having to undergo open-heart surgery today. She has a condition called VSD (ventricular septal defect), a small hole in her heart. They had hoped that as she grew, the hole would heal on its own. Unfortunately, that has not happened, so surgery is necessary to repair the defect. Indiana’s six-to-seven-hour surgery begins at 6:00 a.m. this morning. She will be in ICU for about a week.

Friends, this morning I just ask that you add Indiana Feek, her dad Rory, and her momma Rebecca to your prayers as they go through a difficult road ahead. Father, be with the surgeons and care teams as they help little Indy. Give her and her family strength to heal over the coming days and weeks.

Rory noted in his blog a few days ago that he knows Indy would love to receive a get-well card. He listed the address of the hospital. I’m sharing it here as well. What a sign of love and support it would be if she had cards to read when she begins to wake in ICU.

Thank you, friends, for your prayers for this sweet child. She has been through much in her short 12 years on this earth. She’s strong, and I know that Jesus is right there in that operating room. He will guide her through and continue to guide her as she grows.

Mark 10:14
But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.”
