The Great Physician

Over the last few days, I’ve shared updates about young Indiana Feek, the daughter of Rory Feek. Yesterday, she underwent open heart surgery to repair a small hole in her heart that she has had since birth. The surgery was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but an emergency took the surgeon to another case, so Indy’s surgery was moved to yesterday.

This morning, I woke to a blog notification from Rory’s blog. It came in late last night as he and his wife, Rebecca, were taking turns going in and out of the ICU to spend time with young Indy. I’m happy to report that the surgery went well. “The hole in her heart is closed, the blockages are cleared, and she should make a full recovery and live a full, long life”, Rory wrote in his blog. Today, they will begin the process of sitting her up, and then standing and walking in the days to come. She has much healing to do, and our Lord, the Great Physician, He walks alongside her in that healing.

Last night I received a text from my priest friend, whom I’ve mentioned here before. He sends a morning devotional text each day. His text last night was a request to pray for his father.

As we messaged back and forth, I learned that he had experienced a burn to his leg several days ago that had turned into something serious. My friend’s father, James, was airlifted to a hospital in GA specializing in the care of burn victims. As I learned more about what happened and the potential outcomes, I prayed for James and for my friend that Jesus would provide strength and healing. I asked my prayer group to lift prayers, and they went to work as well.

Though I’ve never met James personally, I’ve learned much about him from my friend. I know that he is a man with deep, deep faith in our Lord. Last night, as I was heading to bed, I did a final check in with my friend for the evening. My friend shared that his dad told him, “The Great Physician is in control”.

This morning’s check-in with my friend was a little more positive. He said that he had spoken to his father around midnight, and that his dad was in good spirits and very positive. The doctor will be in this morning, and we should have a better idea of the plan ahead.

Hearing his dad’s optimism, seeing his faith in action, and knowing the power of prayer, well, that’s a recipe for some serious healing. Prayer is powerful, and it works.

This morning, friends, I ask for continued prayers for little Indy and for James. As I always say, I think when a chorus of prayers is lifted for those in need, well, we become the squeaky wheels that Father pays attention to 🙂 . So please take time throughout your day to lift a prayer for these two special people, that the Great Physician will fill their bodies with healing power.

Thank you, friends, for always being here and for your support and prayers whenever you are asked.

James 5:16
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
