Indulgence

Last night, on the way home from dinner, I found myself listening to the Barry Manilow radio station on Pandora. Yes, truth be told, I’m a Fanilow, always have been. I can remember sitting in my bedroom as a kid and playing his albums, yes, the real vinyl albums, for hours on end.

When we got home, (my husband and I had driven separately to dinner as he had an appt. yesterday), I went and found one of my favorite Manilow CD’s. Fortunately, my husband doesn’t mind too much when I put on this old music, which isn’t often. As we listened to the CD I remembered my favorite album as a kid and went hunting for it in the closet. Yes, believe it or not, we moved a collection of about 500 vinyl albums with us when we relocated. Most of them are my husband’s.

When I got to the closet, I met him just coming out with an armful of Manilow records. Whoa, I had forgotten how many I had. I sat down and started sorting through them, and all those silly memories from my childhood started coming back. Including the one when my oldest brother came into my room and told me how stupid the particular song was that I was listening to. Ya, he wasn’t much of a Manilow fan πŸ™‚ .

It was a nice end to the evening, and I’m so thankful for my husband’s indulgence as I walked down memory lane with that music.

I guess if I were to find some connection to Father in this story from last night, it would be that He wants to see His children happy and content. Think of Adam and Eve walking with Him every day in the Garden. Simple and content times. I was content last night with the simple music and some memories.

Take time to walk down memory lane. Listen to old music, the albums if you have them, yes, the vinyl. Pull out the old pictures and remember the moments that made you take them. Read the letters and let the memories fill you with joy.

Life is short, my friends. Cherish the memories that make it so special and give thanks to the Lord for providing the opportunities that made them.

Have a good day, friends. Continued prayers for James, who is recovering well, and for Indy. Prayers as well for the return of sweet Emily Rea.
