Are You In?

Yesterday, one of our parishioners, well, more than that, a friend, messaged one of my coworkers and asked, “Are you in the office today”? This friend has had some serious health issues and a few surgeries recently. We’ve all been praying for her, and yesterday she wanted to take a short drive. We welcomed her to the office, of course.

She arrived at the office and quietly wandered into my coworker’s office. From my door, I could see her still gingerly walking in. I grabbed my coffee and headed over to give a hug and say hi. We all sat down and enjoyed a wonderful conversation, catching up, getting an update on her health (which is improving very nicely), hearing about her grandson, etc. It wasn’t a planned meeting; it was spur-of-the-moment, but it was wonderful to see her and how well she is doing. Quite honestly, it was nice to just sit with a cup of coffee and have conversation with friends.

We’ve all had those moments in our day, the unplanned interruptions where we’ve probably wished they hadn’t occurred. We don’t have time, we’re in the middle of a project, we have a full email inbox, we have a deadline to meet, you get the idea.

I realized yesterday that those unplanned interruptions, well, maybe the Lord has dropped them there for a reason. They are reminders for us to continually be there for others. They are reminders for us to slow down a bit, listen, be compassionate, supportive, and caring. Life is short, and before you know it, the opportunity to be there for someone may be gone.

So friends, today I encourage you to embrace the unplanned, unexpected interruption. Ask yourself, “Are you in”? Are you in for being there for others? Are you in when a loved one or friend needs a shoulder, needs a kind word, or needs an honest opinion? Be in, be all in.

Have a good day, friends. Thanks as always for being here to read my ramblings 🙂 .
