Yes, we have a pretty major event happening tomorrow, July 4th. I remember our country’s 200th birthday back in 1976. I was actually in Germany; my dad was stationed there. The base did an amazing job making sure that the service members and their families had a celebration. I can’t believe that was 50 years ago.
Just a simple little blog this morning, friends. I love this country; I periodically say that I bleed red, white, and blue. It doesn’t hurt that I share a birthday with this nation 🙂 . I wake up every day feeling blessed to live in a country where I’m free.
I think I shared with you before the story my dad once shared. He was an immigrant from Germany. I used to complain to him that when we would travel around the U.S., it was always by car. I asked him once, “Dad, why do we have to drive?” His answer was simple: “Because we can.” You see, when he was growing up in Germany, their family couldn’t go anywhere without showing papers. They had to check in when leaving a town, when arriving at another, and vice versa. In America, he could drive wherever he wanted, whenever he wanted. And…he did! He, too, loved this nation with all his heart.
So, today, a day early, I say Happy Birthday, America. Thank you, Lord, for the gift of our forefathers who had the foresight to come and build a free nation. Thank you for their perseverance, their courage, and their strength to risk it all.
I offer this prayer for our nation.
Lord God Almighty, in whose Name the founders of this country won liberty for themselves and for us, and lit the torch of freedom for nations then unborn: Grant that we and all the people of this land may have grace to maintain our liberties in righteousness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Celebrate this country, everyone. Be safe, enjoy the time with family and friends. Eat the traditional food, enjoy the sunshine, the parades, and the fireworks. Celebrate the freedoms we enjoy, and give thanks to the servicemen and women who give and have given their lives to protect those freedoms. Say thanks to the grocery worker, the fast food attendant, the server in the restaurant who make this country work every day.
God Bless America, land that I love.
I’m going to take a few days off, friends. Enjoying some much-needed vacation time in my happy place. Have a wonderful holiday, and thank you as always for your support of my little ramblings every day.
Genesis 12:2
And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
