Rainy Days and Sundays

Didn’t the chorus of that popular Carpenters song just run through your head when you read the title of today’s little blog? You can thank me later for planting that tune in your head for the balance of the day 🙂 .

Yesterday was Sunday, and it was indeed a rainy one here in SW Florida. We’re finally getting some relief from our drought conditions. Before I go much further, I just lift a prayer for those in Texas dealing with major flooding, and the storm headed that way.

When we got home from church yesterday, I have to admit, I was lazy. You all know that the gloominess of a rainy day makes for great book reading time. And…book reading on a gloomy day tends to lead to a nap. Yep, I did that too. Then I spent the next three hours working on the paint-by-number picture I’ve had for almost six years. If you’ve been reading this little blog for long, you know that I made a commitment at the beginning of the year to complete this project. Well, yesterday I made pretty good headway.

As my husband and I were making dinner last night, he commented, “We need days like we had today.” After dinner, we took a walk around our little community, finished a show we were watching, and called it a night. It was a relaxing day, and that “out of sorts” feeling I had the day before, well, it was gone.

This morning I woke ready to go. Actually, I woke before the alarm and was making a plan for the day. It’s a funny thing: when we let ourselves relax and rest, we find ourselves ready to go when we need to. Hmm…I’m guessing that is why the Lord wants us to rest every seven days 🙂

I’ve said it so many times before, our bodies and our minds need a break. When we’re run down and tired, it leads to not-so-good things, including opening up doors for satan to sneak in.

Friends, give yourself the ok each week to relax. If you’re still working, don’t check email, step away from the office, enjoy time with family and friends, or a hobby. If you’re retired, well, sometimes you are busier than those of us working. You too should give yourself a break 🙂 . As you’re taking that break, talk with God and thank Him for the gift of this time. Ask Him to help you make this time each week. You’ll be glad you did.

Have a good day, friends; time to get this day started 🙂 .

So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
