The Light of Life

I’m dragging a bit today. I woke up around 2:00 a.m. to a beeping from my phone. I honestly thought my alarm was going off and it was time to get up. When I rolled over to shut it off, I couldn’t see anything. Not only was the alarm clock face totally black, but I also couldn’t see any lights anywhere. I grabbed my phone to see what time it was and discovered it was my phone that was making the beeping noise.

Shaking the sleep off, I realized my phone was beeping because there was no power going to it even though it was plugged in, (new feature, I guess). I nudged my husband to let him know the power was out. He said he wanted to get things turned off that might have issues when the power came back on abruptly.

When we began to move around the house, we noticed it was not only our community without power, but the community across the lake as well. It was dark; I mean, it was pitch-black everywhere we turned. No clock on the microwave, no little light where the ice dispenser is on our fridge, not even little red dots signifying that our TV was off. I mean, there was nothing.

My husband snagged a flashlight and made his way to the breaker box to shut off power to the important stuff, and I went online to the power company to see if the outage had been reported. It had, and it was expected to be back on in less than two hours. We crawled back into bed, and again I noticed the darkness.

I had just dozed back off when the power did indeed come back on at 3:30. The light from my alarm clock flashed, and I could see the other subtle lights around the house. “Thank goodness”, I thought.

As I sat down to type this little blog this morning, I thought again about how very dark it was earlier. It made me think about Good Friday and how darkness fell after Jesus died. How Mary and his disciples must have fallen into a darkness, realizing he was gone.

Then, Easter morning, when they went to the tomb, and the stone was rolled away, and a man sat in dazzling white clothing telling them Jesus had risen. The sun was shining brightly; the Son of God was alive!

What a blessing it is to know that Jesus is with us always. He is the light of the world, and in Him there will be no more darkness. Today, friends, let the light of Jesus fill you up. Walk faithfully with Him, knowing that we have the light of life.

Have a good day, friends. I’m headed to get some coffee; I think I’m going to need it 🙂 .

John 8:12
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
