A friend messaged me thanking me for the message in this little blog yesterday. He commented that he had some things on his mind recently that were keeping him up at night. My message yesterday was about laying things at the foot of Jesus and leaving them there. Walk away from them and move on. Let Him take care of those things.

I messaged back to my friend that I had a very hard time doing just that much of the time. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I talk with the Lord and share the frustration, concerns, etc. with Him, but it’s the walking away part that isn’t easy. The same goes for confessing the wrongdoings, the sins I’ve fallen into. Admitting those to Him, asking honestly for forgiveness, asking for help to not fall prey to Satan’s games again, I don’t have difficulty in that. However, walking away from the guilt of those sins, well, again that’s the difficult part. I tend to think about the wrongdoings even after having the discussion with the Lord.

If Jesus died to take our sins with Him, if He can forgive us, then why can’t we forgive ourselves? If He is willing to take our burdens from us, to lift the heavy weights from our shoulders, why aren’t we willing to let him have those burdens?

I think there are a couple of different answers to those questions. Many times I think it’s not just the asking for forgiveness that frees us from the sin. It depends on what we’ve done. For instance, if we’ve harmed another person by words or deeds, then part of the forgiveness comes when we apologize to that person. That’s when the circle is complete, and the forgiveness we’ve been given washes the sin from us.

In the case of laying our burdens at the feet of the Lord and walking away, well, Jesus told us when we come to Him, He will give us rest. There are many, many things in this life that we cannot control. However, the Lord is in control of everything. When He tells us to bring our burdens to Him, He is strong enough to carry them for us. And…He already knows the plan. It’s kind of like us reading the Bible now, in the present time, wondering why the disciples didn’t believe Jesus at times. We have the benefit of knowing how the story ends; they didn’t; they had to trust fully in Him. Jesus knows how our story ends, so let’s trust that He will take our burdens and move on doing His work.

I think I’m writing this more for me than for all of you. I might even bookmark this little blog and come back to it when I’m struggling with letting go of things 🙂 . Seriously though, friends, the Lord loves us more than we can ever imagine. He gave His life for us. All He asks in return is that we live as best we can, like He did. Walk in His ways and walk away from the burdens and sin that we carry.
