We’ve finally gotten into a “traditional” Florida rain pattern. When I was younger, I would visit my dad here, and you could set your watch by the summer rains in the afternoon. They would roll in around 3:00 p.m., stick around for about an hour, and be done. It was pretty much an everyday occurrence. That pattern has drifted away over the past years since we’ve moved here, and the drought we’ve been in has made that even more so. Well, these past few weeks have seen us back into a pattern of afternoon rains. Yesterday, that pattern held true again. Right about 3:30 p.m., the dark clouds rolled in, and the rain came down, and it wasn’t long before rays of sun were peeking through those clouds.
After dinner, my husband looked out the kitchen window and mentioned that the sun looked nice as it was setting, and we should take a walk to enjoy it. It’s a nice stroll around our community after dinner 🙂 . We stepped outside not only to notice the sun in the west, but also looked up and noticed the large dark clouds moving in. Uh, oh. We debated whether to go and decided, what the heck, let’s do it.
About halfway around the loop, the sprinkles started, and we heard the thunder rumbling. We started humming “Singing in the Rain”, and it wasn’t long before we laughingly sang the chorus, replacing the word singing with walking. The rain started coming down at that point, and we picked up the pace not far from our place. Ya we were soaked by the time we made it inside, but we laughed as we dried off. It was silly fun, and this morning as I type this, I’m still smiling.
The Lord provides so many ways to enjoy this life we live. Simple moments to make special memories. They don’t cost a thing, and yet they are priceless.
Friends, too often we don’t take the time to enjoy the gifts we have. The gift of family and friends. The gift of a simple rain storm, the sun shining through the clouds, the gift of holding the hand of the one you love. Take time today to enjoy those gifts. Give thanks to the Lord for every one of them.
Have a good day, friends. Oh, and great news: Deputy Ace went home yesterday and is doing very well!
James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
