INSPIRASUNS

This morning, I find myself sitting here at this little blog, just giving thanks. Well, that’s a pretty wide-open statement, isn’t it? There are many, many things in this world to give thanks for, I know. What’s so different about this today?

Last night we had our final Summer Soiree. I’ve mentioned them before. During the summer months, we host gatherings at local restaurants for those parishioners who live here full-time. It’s a great way to help the local businesses that are typically slower in the summer, while parishioners get to meet people they may not see during the season, just because they go to service at a different time. We had almost 80 people last night, and it was a wonderful evening.

There was great food, much conversation, even more laughter, and a sense of family that could be felt through the rooms we occupied. I was sitting next to a friend of mine, and as we both looked around the room, she commented, “I wonder if everyone here realizes just how fortunate we are”? We discussed how special our little church is, and how we have all become so close because of it.

As I think about our conversation and I recall the smiling faces all around that room last night, I realize that it’s not our little church that has brought us all together. Our beautiful sacred space is just the location where we gather. It’s Father who has brought us there. It’s Jesus who has strengthened the bond between us. That bond is what guides us to pray for each other, be there during difficult times, give a hug when someone is in need, deliver a meal to one who is sick, and celebrate joy during special moments. We truly are a family, and we are blessed.

Today, friends, I just encourage you to not only give thanks for the relationships in your lives, but to tell someone how much they are appreciated. Let them know you care; let them know they are loved. Too often, time gets away from us, and before we know it, the opportunity is gone. So, make today the day 🙂 .
