It Is What It Is – Or Is It

Yesterday morning as I was heading out the door to work, my facilities manager sent me a text message. It was a video and he simply said “be prepared for a computer glitch”. The video was of my pc at work making some sort of crazy beeping noise and an error message on the screen. The message said that Dell had resolved the issue and to hit continue. “Great!”, I thought, this is the start of a wonderful day! Before pulling out of the driveway, I ran back upstairs and grabbed my laptop, just in case the worst came true and my pc was toast.

When I got to work, yep, indeed there was an obnoxious beeping coming from my office, even though the door was closed. In I went and took a look at the screen and the message. I grabbed the mouse and nothing happened. Dell had locked the screen and would only let me hit the enter key. Oh boy, well, I didn’t have much choice and I had my laptop if things didn’t turn out well. I sheepishly hit the enter key and the screen went dark. However it didn’t take long before the screen came back up showing it had done updates. Shew, thank goodness!

I went about my day and it was pretty productive. We’re fine tuning lots of little details for our final Sunday in the church, and by the end of the day I was feeling pretty good about things. My husband and I headed out the door hoping to get home and have dinner at a reasonable time, and before the storms came through.

We got home and I started to prep dinner before changing to get a head start. A few minutes later I put my purse in my office and BAM realized that I had left my laptop sitting in my office at work. Yes, I do believe I said and expletive! I have to admit, the first thing that came to mind was, “I’m not going to be able to write the little blog in the morning”.

I wandered around a bit, kind of like a lost puppy who was looking for their favorite toy. I have a pretty solid routine in the morning and I had just thrown a wrench into the middle of it. And…I’m in the middle of planning the fall event for my little golf group, so have some things to get completed, which I usually do in the morning when the blog is finished. Ugh!

Then, I realized, I wasn’t going to go back to the office and get the laptop. I was in a situation where, “It was what it was”. At that point I wondered if Father was at play. Was He telling me that whatever I had to do would be there tomorrow and to just enjoy maybe a few more minutes before the alarm goes off, (sleep in I mean).

Well, obviously I found a way to get some things completed, because, here is the little blog this morning. My husband gave me his tablet and through the craziness of trying to access things with this code and that verification text here I am.

As I’ve been typing this I’m thinking about how many times do I or we do give up when things seem a little too difficult. How many times to we think “This isn’t worth it?” I could have slept in a little, skipped the blog for today and the message I think Father wants me to share with just a note that I had technical issues. I think though that He prefers we do the extra work, put in a little extra effort and do what we can to spread His message and His love.

There are times when it’s difficult to be an example of the Lord. We get frustrated, hurt by others, feel jealous or forgotten. Jesus knows those feeling and that pain and asks us to trust Him to get through it. He’s there to help us do a little extra work and make our way back to Him. Once there, we get renewed to begin again, sharing His love wherever we can 🙂 .

So, friends, when things seem difficult. When you want to say, “It is what it is”, take a second look just to make sure it isn’t. Is there a way to make it happen? You might just find that there is a way, Jesus is there to help.

Have a good day friends. I’m off to make sure my laptop sits right where I can see it today 🙂 . Continued prayers for the return of sweet Emily Rea.
