On the way home last night, I found one of my favorite stations on Pandora and cranked up the tunes. My husband and I had driven separately to work because I needed to get in earlier. Normally, the radio is off in our vehicles, especially when we are riding together because we’re usually chatting.
It was another busy day yesterday, and I have to admit I was pretty tired when I left the office. Not just physically, but mentally. In addition to the building project, we’re square in the midst of final planning for our program year. So, the website is getting updated, communications to parishioners are being created, social media scheduled, yes, it’s a happenin’ place right now.
So, as I said, I would normally make the drive home in the quiet to decompress from the day, but last night I listened to some of my favs. I found myself going down memory lane as the songs came on, many of which I listened to when I was a kid. At one point, a song came on that brought up emotions I hadn’t felt in a very long time. Visions of my mom came to mind, and I could see her so clearly. Along with the emotions came the tears. Yes, it’s been quite some time since I’ve missed her like that. Of course, I think about her every day, and not a day goes by that I don’t look forward to seeing her again, but yesterday was a little different.
Grief is a very real, very personal emotion. There is no right or wrong way, and there really is no time frame for it. My mom has been gone for almost 30 years, and usually when I see a picture or recall a special moment with her, it makes me smile. And yes…I know that one day we’ll be together again for eternity.
I’m not sure why Father brought the memories He did yesterday. Maybe He knew that yesterday I wanted to just pick up the phone and call my mom. Maybe He knew that I just needed a release from the busy day. By the time I got home, I felt better, and I was humming along to a tune as I pulled into the garage.
Friends, when those moments of grief sneak up on us, I think it’s important to let them play out. Let the tears come, release the pain you feel to Jesus, and let Him bring the promise of eternal life with our loved ones to fill the void we may still have in our hearts. We’re human, and there will be times of grief. What helps to heal that grief is knowing that this is not the end; we’re only passing through this world. We’ll one day be reunited with loved ones and friends who have gone before, and we’ll spend eternity with them in God’s house π .
Have a good day, friends. Thanks as always for listening to my ramblings.
Revelation 21:4
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
