Yesterday afternoon, my husband and I did the dreaded grocery store run. Worse than that, we also did the dreaded Costco run. Even though it’s just the two of us, we usually do our meat shopping at Costco, and yes, I’m probably one of the only people in the country who dislikes going to this store. It’s usually packed with people, long checkout lines, and parking, well, don’t even go there. Having said all that, there are significant savings in buying our meat there. One trip will usually last us several months, so it’s worth fighting the crowds, the lines, and the long walks across the parking lot 🙂 .

Of course, getting through the store is only half of the process. Once home, we have to get everything unpacked and then cut into portions, vacuum-sealed, and put into the freezer. It truly is a full afternoon event. I spent yesterday afternoon cutting, wrapping, sealing, and labelling everything. As I did so, I spent much time silently chatting with Father. My husband was doing other Sunday tasks around the house and would stop in periodically to lend a hand here and there. I’m pretty sure both of us would have preferred doing other things.

Well, sure enough, we made our way through the Costco meat process, and as I looked at the full freezer, I was glad we stuck with it. It really was worth dealing with the unpleasantness of the crowds, traffic, and cutting/packing process.

This morning, as I sat down to write this little blog, I thought about the afternoon yesterday and doing what had to be done. It made me think about my relationship with Father. No, I’m not comparing it to Costco 🙂 . However, while I was doing the work I was dreading, I found myself leaning on Him, talking with Him to get me through. And…in the grand scheme of things, it really didn’t take that long.

Friends, we have things in our lives that we don’t like to do, or even dread doing. If we make a point to include the Lord in the process, He will make things easier. Then, when on the other side, we usually find that not only are we glad we made it through, but that it was worth it.

So, if you have a task on your plate today that you’re dreading, take some time to talk with the Lord first. Ask Him to help you get through. Ask Him to be by your side and show you the way. Then, dig in and get ‘r done. I’m guessing you’ll be glad you did 🙂 .
