This morning I spent some time ironing. Unlike many people, I don’t mind it. It’s actually relaxing to me, and this morning even more so. You see, I was ironing altar linens. One of my very first little blogs was about ironing these linens.
You see, there is a method to it. They are folded and pressed in a certain way. Folded in thirds, then one flap over the next, and ironed so there are nice creases. This helps the clothes hang nicely over the chalice. The corporal, or altar cloth that is used at communion, it too is folded in thirds and creased nicely. This serves as the “tablecloth,” so to speak, when the priest is consecrating bread and wine.
As I was ironing this morning, I got into a rhythm and found myself thinking about the Lord’s table. I thought about that first supper when Jesus gave thanks and broke the bread for his disciples. Then, the blessing and sharing of the wine. It’s humbling to be pressing the linens that are used to celebrate this meal each Sunday.
It was a nice change to my morning routine and gave me a little more quiet time with Father. More importantly, I was spending time with Him, in service to Him.
The more we can carve out time to spend with Father, the better. Even in the simplest of tasks, we can find ways to be with Him. So, friends, look for ways today to connect with Him. I think you’ll find the day will be much brighter when you do 🙂 .
Have a good day, everyone. Continued prayers for the return of Emily Rea.
Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
