My daughter called me yesterday afternoon to chat. She’d had a rough day at work and just needed to let it out. Actually, I’d had a pretty weird day as well, so it was nice to talk. I tried to lend support where I could, and she did the same. By the end of the conversation, we were both in a little better place, I think.

Later in the evening, she sent me a text message with a photo attached. It was a picture of a hat I had sent to her a few days ago along with a T-shirt honoring Ace, the Polk County K-9 sheriff, that I wrote about several weeks ago. I have to admit, I had totally forgotten that I sent the package, but I was thankful that it arrived yesterday. Maybe that was Jesus at work? He knew she needed a little bright spot to end a rough day 🙂 .

This morning, as I was thinking about our conversation and the way the evening ended, it made me think about the opportunities we all have to be a bright spot in someone’s day. I’ve said here many times before that you just never know how your actions can make a difference to another person. Even the simplest of words or deeds can change the outlook of someone.

So, friends, on this Saturday, I just encourage you to be there for others. If a text message from a friend seems a little more serious, pick up the phone and check in with them. Share a smile with a stranger at the grocery store. Send a note, yes, a handwritten one, to a family member. Introduce yourself to the new neighbor. Put yourself in someone else’s shoes, and treat them as you would want to be treated.

We’re here for a very short time, and Jesus asks that while we are here, we make a point to be like Him. Make a difference. My prayer is that when I stand in front of Him one day, I can share that I believe I did just that.
