He’s At Work – In the Quiet

Sometimes it’s easier to see God at work in our lives than at other times. I admit, there are times when I wonder if He’s listening to my prayers. It gets pretty quiet, but maybe that is when He is most at work. Sometimes He realizes that we need to be in the quiet for a bit.

Over these past weeks, as I’ve been thinking about the history of our little church, I’ve found those quiet moments. The special events that have shaped the lives of so many, the tears shed, the prayers prayed – all of these are God at work.

Almost 75 years ago, a group of faithful people came together to form this church. The first service took place on the front porch of a little hotel. A piece of land was donated to build the current building, and the rest, so they say, is history.

One of the original founders, in that little group that met on the front porch of the hotel, well, she’s still alive. She will be 102 in November, and this Sunday she will be at the final service in this building. When I think about her in attendance, it makes me smile. Her being present, well, that too is God at work.

Friends, I know we all face different challenges in our lives, and we may feel that God isn’t there. When you feel it’s too quiet, think for a moment that maybe God is more at work than at any other time. Give in to the silence for a bit and ask Him to work within you.

Have a good day, friends. Continued prayers for the return of sweet Emily Rea.

p.s. thanks to Liz Brunson for the beautiful sunset from the Heartland a few nights ago.

Philippians 2:13
For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

Thank you for bringing rebuilding to mind. My little church was destroyed by Powder Puff Beetles. We didn’t know they were happily eating the trusses from over our heads, until it was too late. First, we found the problem. Second, we found out the insurance would not cover damages because powder puff beetles were not a covered benefit. Third, we found out that our denomination of Evangelical Free churches would not help us rebuild. The land was worth more than our church so they wanted us to sell. But that’s when God showed up in a big way.  The Southern Baptist conference came beside us and helped us to rebuild and restore our church.  The city of Satellite Beach even allowed rezoning on our property so that RVs full of Alabama Comers could come and stay and help us rebuild.  Just last month our little Church paid off the mortgage. God is faithful and God is good Kim. You will be amazed what God does and rebuilding churches and people. Just wanted to share with you, Kim. Love you so much. Cathy Smith.
