You all know that each morning and evening I spend time on our lanai with Father. My time with Him in the morning is my favorite because it’s much quieter, and I feel more connected. During my prayer time with Him, I have several petitions that I say each time. I pray for my family, ask for healing for many whom I know, and, of course, I ask for forgiveness of my sins. I’m guessing you do much the same.

On Sundays, part of our service includes a confession of sin. We openly confess that we have sinned against the Lord, “by what we have done, and by what we have left undone”. This morning I found myself asking for forgiveness for what I have left undone. I have to admit I’m not sure why. Perhaps it was Father giving me a nudge to share about it this morning.

When we think of sin, I’m guessing we most always think about what we have done wrong. We think about the actions that had a negative impact. We weren’t honest, we spoke ill of someone, we took something that didn’t belong to us; you get what I mean: we did something wrong.

Think for a moment about the sin of things we have left undone. Our confession of sin goes on to say, “We have not loved thee with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves”. Ah yes, now a few things come to mind. Perhaps we didn’t say thank you to the clerk at the grocery store. Maybe we didn’t even acknowledge the stranger who said good morning. Or we walked right by the piece of litter lying on the ground, rather than picking it up and putting it in the garbage can. We didn’t say what should be said to heal the pain of a relationship. Yes, if I stop to think for just a bit, there are many things I can think of that I’ve left undone and that keep me separated from the Lord.

Friends, take a little time today to think about the things you’ve left undone. Then, do something about it. Make the apology, don’t look the other way, say what needs to be said, or pick up that piece of litter on the ground and put it where it belongs, even if you weren’t the one who left it there. Do what needs to be done, and let yourself grow closer to the Lord in the process.
