A Frequent Visitor

This week, a parishioner has come into the office several times. He doesn’t really have anything in particular that he wants. One day he asked me if I could recommend a place where he could get business cards printed. The next day, we talked about our services and how beautiful they are. He shared about his home church up north and how their Palm Sunday services were so memorable, and ours were like them. One day he spent time in my husband’s office chatting.

This morning, as I was thinking back over the week, I thought about this man and why he was stopping in so much. It’s not something he regularly does. Then it came to me that perhaps he was coming just to spend time with people who, like him, love this little church. He wanted to be around folks who were facing what he was facing, going through what he was going through. He wanted to be comforted in some little way.

Maybe I’m making too much of it. Even if I am, that doesn’t change the fact that I’d like to think that this gentleman did find the comfort he was looking for. Isn’t that what Jesus asks us to do, to love our neighbors as ourselves? He asks that we be there for others in whatever they are facing.

There are so many simple ways to help others, and unfortunately we all get too wrapped up in the day to realize it. Just a short conversation, or even a welcoming smile, is all that is needed sometimes.

So, today, friends, look for the moments when you can make someone’s day a little brighter. No matter how insignificant you might think the gesture is, do it anyway 🙂 .

Have a good day, everyone. Oh, and if you could please lift a few prayers for my brother, they would be much appreciated. He’s still fighting with some health issues.

Galatians 5:14
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
