Things Are Just Things

What matters to you? Is it the house, the car or truck, the newest cell phone or tech gadget, the country club membership? I hope not.

What should matter most is family. Your husband, wife, kids, siblings, grandkids, and all the aunts, uncles, cousins, and the like. This, my friends, is what is most important in this life.

Yesterday morning, as I was just about to get into the shower, my phone rang, like at 6:00 a.m. It was my brother, so I grabbed it. He started out by telling me that my oldest brother and sister-in-law were OK. I was like, “What are you talking about”? My older brother, who I have asked you all to pray for recently, was who he was referring to. My oldest brother has been in the hospital for the last week. He just got out on Tuesday evening. The call yesterday morning was to let me know that he and his wife were ok; however, their house burned to the ground early yesterday morning. Their dogs woke them up, and thank goodness my sister-in-law and her sister (who has been visiting), were able to mobilize my brother and get out.

Friends, I have no words right now. I’ve leaned hard into prayer because it is only through the strength of Jesus that we will overcome.

This life is not about things. Ditch the latest cell phone model, don’t worry about that new car, be content with the home you have, because tomorrow it might all be gone.

Hug your spouse, your kids, grandkids, and your friends. Give to those that need it, and even those who don’t. Live as if today was it, and more importantly, give as if today was the only chance you had to give.

Friends, I simply ask that you lift prayers for my brother Bill and his wife Lorrie, that Jesus guide their path in the days ahead. Thank you, everyone.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
