The Day that Followed

Today we remember 2977 of our fellow citizens who perished on this day 25 years ago. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. If you are like me, you remember exactly where you were on 9/11/01. I remember the day like it was yesterday. The images of that day, though hardly ever shown, are still very clear in my mind. I think those images need to be shared, and shared often, so we never, ever forget those who lost their lives that day, simply for being an American.

I’ve seen a meme on social media over the past few days that says, “The best way to honor those who died on 9/11 is to behave like we all did on 9/12”. If you recall, on September 12, 2001, this nation was united, dare I say, like it had never been, or has been since. We came together as Americans, as Children of God, to help each other. We mourned, we consoled, we rushed to help where we could. We gave blood at blood banks, donated money, and our leaders stood on the Capitol steps united as one. And…the further we have gotten from that fateful day, the more divided we have become.

Friends, this life is so, so precious. It is so, so short. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. As I have said more than once in this little blog recently, take time today to call your loved ones and let them know you love them. Message a friend and let them know you are thinking about them. Tell a stranger, “Good morning.” Give thanks to the Lord for the gifts in your life.

Today, I pray for the families of all those who were lost on 9/11/01. I give thanks for the courage of all the heroes that day, and in the days, months, and years that followed. I pray that the Lord will once again unite this great nation we call home as He did on 9/12. Let us never forget that fateful day, and let us live our lives as we did on the day that followed.

God bless all who were lost, and God Bless the United States of America.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that all who believe in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

  1. I’m just going to say that I wrote my Facebook post BEFORE I read the blog this morning…. but somehow I knew it would say very much the same things. Thank you for raising me in God’s image and to love this amazing country we call home.
