Talents for Good

We’re all good at something. I have to admit I’ve never understood the term “hidden talent”. We either have talents or not; I don’t know how they can be hidden. Ok that was a lot of garbly gook in those sentences, wasn’t it?

I do think it’s interesting how people have talents. Take my husband, for instance: not only is he an accountant (by the way, that is what he has wanted to be since he was a kid), but he is also McGyver, Mr. Fix-Anything. His mind just works that way. He’ll dig in and research, and the next thing you know, he’s got the washing machine, the faucet, or the garage door running smoothly. Or, like last weekend, he replaced several doorknobs in our home so they all match πŸ™‚ . He loves little projects like that, and he’s good at it.

Both of our children are musically inclined. Our oldest can play music by ear. One evening, when she came down the stairs playing the tune from M*A*S*H on her saxophone, we were floored. We asked where she got the sheet music; she said she didn’t; she just listened and kept tinkering till she had the tune. They certainly didn’t get this talent from me; I can’t carry a tune in a bucket, and I can’t read music. My brain doesn’t think that way.

There are countless friends and family members that I know who have wonderful talents. For whatever reason, this morning I was thinking about them. I was thinking about how, if all of God’s children would use the talents they have for good, what an incredible place this would be. These days are filled with spam calls, fake emails, credit card hackers, etc.; it’s exhausting. My goodness, use those talents for good; use those talents to actually help someone else, not hurt them.

So, friends, today I encourage you to use the talents you have to make this place we call home a better place. Use them to help someone in need. Use them to make someone’s day just a little brighter. What talents has the Lord given you to share, and better yet, why are you waiting?

Have a good day, friends. Thanks again for all your prayers for my brother and his wife. Please also continue to pray for the return of sweet Emily Rea.

Galatians 6:9
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
