A Little Book Comforting Prayer

I’ve mentioned here in this little blog before that my husband gave me a little book called “The Practice of Religion”. Inside the cover, it reads, “A short manual of instructions and devotions”.

It is indeed a book of instructions about our services, special occasions, and situations. If you were new to our denomination, this little book would help provide context on why we do what we do, which I’ve found very interesting, even though I’ve been an Anglican for more than 35 years.

So, while this little red book is helpful in the instructions, it’s the devotionals that I find so comforting. It includes prayers for various occasions, but for me, the simplicity of the Morning, Noonday, and Evening prayers is reassuring that Father is here. These simple prayers remind me to give thanks every day for His most beautiful gifts.

This morning, as I read Morning Prayer, I felt a tug to share it here so you too could experience the simple comfort of beginning the day with Him.

From the Practice of Religion – Morning Prayer
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost. Amen

I lay down and slept and rose again, for the Lord watched over me.

Now that the daylight fills the sky, we lift our hearts to God on high, that He, in all we do or say, may keep us free from sin today.

O Father, fill our hearts with love, that we may seek the things above. Extinguish Thou each sinful fire, and banish every wrong desire.

O Father, that we ask be done, through Jesus Christ, thine only Son, who with the Holy Ghost and Thee, doth live and reign eternally.

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

O blessed Jesus, who at this hour was nailed to the cross, grant us henceforth, as to crucify to ourselves all that draws us away from Thee, that serving and following Thee in this life we may rise to the life immortal. Amen.

Almighty God, we beseech Thee to watch over us, Thy servants, and all others for whom we should pray. Direct and guide us with Thy Holy Spirit, bless and prosper us in all that we do, and bring us safely to another night, for Jesus Christ’s Sake. Amen

A short, simple way to begin your day with Father. Pray for Him to guide us safely through the day, keeping us from sin and harm.

Have a good day, friends. May it be filled with the love that only Jesus can provide. Please continue to pray for Bill and Lorrie, and for the return of Emily Rea.

Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
