Those of you who know me personally know that I’m a planner. I’m a list maker, and I like it when things are in order ๐ . I guess it’s my ops brain.
Yesterday, I took the day off because it was supposed to be one of only two days in like the last three weeks that sunshine was forecasted. Not partly sunny, but like, sunshine. I knew I wanted to be on the water; that much was clear. Outside of that, though, I didn’t really have a plan.
I managed to get myself onto the water by about 10:30 a.m., even though I wasn’t totally sure where I was going to launch. I was surprised that there weren’t more people out and about. It was a beautiful morning, and Columbus Day had schools and federal offices closed. Don’t get me wrong, I was ok with the light activity ๐ .
I spent the next few hours puttering around. Again, no specific plan. I found myself heading around islands I hadn’t seen before. I hugged the shoreline, following dolphins popping in and out. Ospreys were hunting, herons were watching me, and those funny birds that swim underwater were diving for food. I slowed as I made my way in and out of some canals as a manatee swam by.
Throughout those few hours, I found myself talking with Jesus and thanking Him for the beauty of the day. I thanked Father for the beauty of His creation. I thanked Him for the time to relax and to simply have no plan. I realized how blessed I am, and I gave thanks for all those blessings too.
Friends, in the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, it’s easy to forget about the gift of not having a plan. We forget about the times to just enjoy the beauty around us. We’re so busy doing that we don’t enjoy the gifts we’ve been presented.
This morning, think about those gifts. Give thanks, and make a plan for the weekend to…not have a plan. Just enjoy what you have, give thanks for the blessings, and let Jesus know that you’re grateful.
Have a good day, friends. Continued prayers for Bill and Lorrie and for the return of Emily Rea.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
