The weather yesterday reminded us why we moved to SW Florida. The humidity broke; the temperature was cool (for us), and there was a little hint of fall in the air. It was windy, but that was ok; it felt good.
On the way home from church, I suggested that we take the tops off the Bronco and take a ride to enjoy the beautiful day. My husband agreed almost as quickly as I said it, asking, “Where should we go?” We agreed to give it some thought while we changed.
It didn’t take long for a thought to come to mind. There is a little bakery on Marco (my happy place) that has some pretty amazing items. My husband has become a fan of their cinnamon streusel bread. I suggested we take a drive there and pick up said favorite item for him. Again, he readily agreed. As we crawled into the truck and headed out, he mentioned, “We have stuff at home to do, but it’s good to take a day to enjoy”.
The rest of the afternoon was filled with driving, laughing, and shopping. We went places we hadn’t been in a long time, drove to places we’d never seen, and we did take care of some little errands, like picking up that cinnamon streusel bread for my husband to have with coffee this week. When we got home, we enjoyed time on the lanai, the one we spent hours cleaning the day before š .
We had a truly wonderful day, and this morning, as I thought about it, I realized we did what Father asks us to do on His day: we gave it to Him. We spent the morning in His house, and then relaxed and rested, enjoying the beauty of His creation.
We also made memories yesterday, memories we wouldn’t have if we had just stayed home and worked on a to-do list. I’d much rather have the memories we created than those of completing the things we had to do.
Friends, as I remind you, and me, for that matter, life is short. Make the memories, find time to relax and enjoy the beauty around you with the ones you love. Yes, we all have things to do, but…what do you want to remember?
Have a good day, everyone š .
Exodus 20:11
For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
