So I’m sure when you read the title of today’s little blog, your mind might have gone to the ever-popular pumpkin spice latte. It seems that as soon as October rolls around, coffee shops, bakeries, and grocery stores are filled with products promoting this seasonal taste. Well, I must admit, I may be the only person in the country who has never tried a pumpkin spice latte 🙂 . It’s just never sounded appealing to me.
Yesterday, on my way to work, I stopped to grab a coffee at one of our local coffee shops/bakeries. It’s one of my favorite places. Their baked goods are simply the best in town, in my humble opinion, and their staff is awesome! As I parked the car, I was thinking about the cappuccino that I was going to order. They make the best, and even put the beautiful leaf design in the foam for me 🙂 . Yes, I know, it’s over the top but fun. I wandered into the shop, and as I stepped up to the counter, they had a sign posted showcasing all of their seasonal flavored drinks. As you can imagine, there, dead center on the sign, was the pumpkin spice latte. What caught my eye, though, was that it was made with their homemade pumpkin syrup. Ok, ok, I’ll try one already, I thought, and placed my order for the drink everyone raves about.
On my way out to the car, I admit, I took a sniff of my coffee to see if I could catch a hint of that spice. I really couldn’t smell much, however…I took my first sip and thought, “Ok, I get it”. Yes, it was pretty amazing. Just a hint of pumpkin and that touch of spice, ya, I felt like I was right in the middle of Thanksgiving dessert 🙂 .
It was definitely a treat. I don’t think it will be my go-to drink every day in the fall, but ya, I’ll have it a couple of times during the season, I’m guessing.
Ok, so where in the world am I going with this little blog today? Friends, this world is filled with troubling events these days. If we aren’t careful, we can get sucked into the awfulness of it all. Or we can anchor ourselves firmly in prayer, guided by faith in our Lord, and we can celebrate the gifts that He gives us each day. Yes, like the simple gift of a pumpkin spice latte.
Have a good day, friends. Lift prayers for those in need today, that the Lord will heal them, strengthen them, and bring them peace.
Romans 12:6-8
Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
