This weekend is our annual Christmas Market at church. It’s actually the 70th year for this special event. Local businesses from our town are invited to come and participate, in addition to three of our own ministries of the Gourmet Canners (homemade canned jams, jellies, and chutneys), our Gingerbread House (homemade baked goods), and our Golden Mouse (holiday fashion, art, jewelry, and housewares). We transform our parish hall into an old-town Christmas Market.
Between tonight’s preview party and tomorrow’s public sale, we’ll greet more than 500 people. Our local vendors will get recognition and sales, of course, but will also donate 15% of all they sell to our Women of Trinity ministry. This ministry will then, through its grants program, give the money to local county charities. It’s a special event, and everyone gives back to the community where we live.
It’s a wonderful tradition, and even though this year it’s been quite the juggling act with the church project in full swing, it’s come together nicely. The Lord has a way of bringing things together for His purpose 🙂 . This, I believe, is His purpose: people helping people.
Last night, I made the sought-after chocolate bourbon pecan pies. They’ve become centerpieces in the Gingerbread house. I wasn’t going to make them this year, but yesterday several people asked about them. I think Jesus was saying, “What do you mean you aren’t going to donate your pies?” So, this morning they are wrapped and ready to go 🙂 .
Friends, I know I sound like a broken record sometimes, but Father keeps putting the message in my head. We need to be there for others. Donate your time, talent, and treasure to make a difference in this world. Make someone’s day a little brighter. It doesn’t take much. Maybe even just the gift of a pecan pie.
Look around today; where can you make a difference? You might be surprised just how easy it is. More importantly, you might be surprised how good you feel doing it.
Have a good day, friends. Oh, and no little blog tomorrow; I’ll be back on Sunday morning. Tomorrow is an early start to get to our public sale.
Continued prayers this morning for many: Bill and Lorrie, John, John, and Courtney, as they deal with challenges. Lord, please heal your children.
2 Thessalonians 3:13
As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good.
