Every now and then, there comes along a person who has such love and joy in their heart, there can’t help but be an immediate connection. That was Polly.
Polly was a mentor to me in my current role as Parish Administrator. She had been the heart of the office for many, many years before I even began attending. I remember the day she retired and the wonderful recognition she received during the service.
This parish was her home for decades, long before she became the Parish Administrator. She loved it and the people who came through the doors over the years. I don’t know that she had an enemy; if she did, I certainly didn’t see it.
She was a gentle soul, and it shone through every time she greeted you. “How’s it going?” were the first words out of her mouth every time she wandered into my office. If I ever had a question, needed to bounce off an idea, or yes, even let off a little frustration, well, she was always there to listen and give advice. My goal in my role as Parish Administrator has always been to be like Polly.
Polly passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on Saturday morning. I’m sad that I will no longer get to ask those questions, hear that, “How’s is going?”, see the joyful soul around the parish. But…the joy that I feel knowing that she so willingly walked into the arms of Jesus that morning to her eternal home, well, that helps to overcome the sadness. Heck, she probably said to Him, “Oh Hi, how’s it going?”
Friends, thank you for letting me share this little remembrance today. Death is a part of this life, but it is just the beginning of our eternal life. There is hope knowing Jesus paid the price for us to live with Him forever in paradise. Thank you, Jesus, for that gift and for escorting Polly home.
Please keep Polly’s family in your prayers.
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
